Brussels, 1981 and Eoin and and his coaching staff hold their heads in their hands as Belgium break Irish hearts with a last minute goal from a free kick that never was. It was a goal that cost us a place at the World Cup in Spain the following year and still our long wait to qualify continued.
Having ousted the runners up from the previous World Cup, The Netherlands, a point was all we needed, one solitary point, we should have taken both on that fateful night really. Earlier in the game Frank Stapleton had scored a goal from a Liam Brady pass but alas the referee ruled it out for offside, it was not to be our night at all!!
Revenge however is a dish best served cold and we had ours en route to qualifying for the European Championships in 1988.
