It's not often that womens football overshadows the mens game in Ireland but last year Peamount Uniteds ladies took over the limelight as they fought to become the first Irish team to qualify for the knockout round of a UEFA competition as they competed in the UEFA Womens Champions League for the first time.
A last minute goal condemed them to a 1 - 0 loss to the much fancied professionals of Rayo Vallecano after they battled bravely to keep the score level. Not to be deterred by this loss Peamount bounced back with a 7-0 and 5-1 win over teams from Estonia and Slovenia to create a small piece of Irish football history and become the first Irish team to make progress to the last 32 of a European competition.

The journey came to an end in the knockout round against PSG of France as in the first leg in Tallaght Stadium, after another brave perfomance, Paris St Germain scored two goals in the final 20 minutes to all but end Peamounts hopes of progressing to the second knockout round.
