Surely Irelands stunning victory over England at The Cricket World Cup should rank as our small nations greatest ever victory but our cricket team has been churning out major upsets and some 'Moral Victories' for the last few years. Take the 2007 Cricket World Cup for example.
Jubilant scenes after Ireland beat Pakistan
A draw with Zimbabwe, a full ICC Test playing nation, when a defeat looked the more likely outcome started the campaign. This was followed by what I thought then to be a huge cricket upset when Pakistan were torn apart. Unfortunately this victory over Pakistan was overshadowed by the death of Pakistans coach Bob Woolmer and the ensuing investigation.
Even allowing a defeat to host nation West Indies we still made it through to the second round were we lost, first up to England then to South Africa. Both were very close losses but we showed we could compete with the best of them. Two big losses to Australia and New Zealand were followed by another upset, this time a 74 run win over Bangladesh, before bowing out with a very tired performance against Sri Lanka.
