Tallinn, Estonia the scene of one of the most recent glorious sporting achievements as we took a giant stride on our way to qualification for Euro 2012 in Poland and Ukraine but also the scene of another of our nations greatest 'moral victories'.Being an island nation you would expect us to have a better pedigree in sailing competitions than we have, I mean we have never won The Americas Cup, then again when was the last time we actually tried to win it??
There was however the 1980 Moscow Olympics, the sailing events took place in Tallinn, when the heroics of David Wilkins and James Wilkinson, who combined in the Flying Dutchman class, secured Irelands only sailing Olympic medals to date by taking out second place after eight days of racing.
The Flying Dutchman is no longer sailed in Olympic competitions leaving us in 9th position on the all time medals chart albeit with a solitary silver medal but still it's still super stuff for sure!!
